RN 75 SETIF LANDSLIDE

Location: Setif (Algeria)
Client: Astaldi
Year: 2017 – 2018

Along the National Road RN 75 in the Setif area, a large slope deformation (a few meters) with a slip surface up to 20 m deep occurred in 2014 and completely destroyed the recently-built road. Main causes can be related to climatic effects (due to snow and thawing cycles) and earthworks necessary to change the road alignment in correspondence of the reservoir of Mahouane dam.

SGS with Geoworks S.a.s. initially carried out a quick analysis of the landslide area including a photogrammetric survey by drone. Following additional ground investigations, SGS then prepared a design solution for stabilisation of the landslide by means of earthworks, anchored piles and by a significant drainage system including trenches, draining piles and chanels.
